It’s that time of year again! The year has flown by and Christmas is only a short four weeks away. The pressure to get the perfect gift is officially on. Finding the right gift for everyone can be difficult, which is why we’ve decided to do some of the leg work for you by compiling a gift guide for the outdoor adventure enthusiast on your list.
Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL1
You can’t go wrong with a Big Agnes tent, especially a Fly Creek. For years, the Fly Creek HV UL1 has been one of the most popular tents out on the trail and for good reason too. A three-season, free standing, ultralight backpacking tent with a DAC Featherlite NSL pole system, the Fly Creek offers easy construction without the heavy weight. Plus, the Fly Creek’s taller walls allows for optimum space for more comfort while out on the trail.

It’s no secret that we love ULA here at Mountain Crossings. Functional, lightweight, and perfect for the trail, ULA is always our go-to for long distance hikers. So why not enjoy the same functionality and comfort for shorter hikes? Though it doesn’t feature a hip belt like the larger models, the ULA Fastpack is a vest-style pack that’s built for speed, comfort, and the perfect pack for your next day hike.

Western Mountaineering Ultralite 20°
Designed with both comfort and survival in mind, Western Mountaineering makes some of the best bags around for every niche and need. Looking for a good bag to take for a quick weekend trip? Expecting to encounter various climates on your long distance hike/bike/etc.? Western Mountaineering has the bag for you. For someone who isn’t prepping for extreme temperatures, our favorite is the Western Mountaineering Ultralite. With a 59″ shoulder girth, this efficient bag is good all the way down to 20°. The full down collar helps to seal in heat around your neck without adding excess bulk, and 16 oz. of high lofting down pumps this bag to 5″. And the best thing about the Ultralite? Once you’re snuggled up inside, this bag will keep you nice and toasty as the temperatures start to drop, no matter what.

Leki Carbon Ti
Having a good pair of trekking poles can make all the difference in a hiker’s stamina, especially when the terrain becomes increasingly difficult. Even if you don’t think you need the help of a trekking pole, your knees are going to thank you later for using them. And while there are plenty of solid options out there, our personal favorite is the Leki Carbon Ti for its support, sleekness, and overall sound design. Featuring an extremely comfortable Aergon grip with thermo foam extension and a Speed Lock 2 height adjustment system, the Carbon Ti is the perfect model for every hiker and every experience.
Weight: 216 grams/pole
Pack Size: 67 cm
Smartwool Base Layer
With the temperatures continuing to drop, no one wants to give up an adventure simply because they’re cold. We know we sure don’t! And that’s what we love about Smartwool’s base layer. It’ll keep you warm when just about nothing else will. Our personal favorite is the Merino 250 Base Layer Bottom (or top). It’s the perfect medium and works for both fall and winter temps. During the fall, use this piece as a single layer and as the weather becomes colder, simply layer up.
Fit: Slim/ Natural rise
Garment Weight: 6.7 oz
These are just a few of our favorites this holiday season. We hope that some of these ideas can help ease the anxiety of gift shopping this year, or at least make things a little easier.
